Let's get back into blogging

Life has been busy! Working two jobs takes a lot of time ya'll. But I love them both, so I can handle it.
The boy and I have been watching Bleach again. We made it through the terrible Bount story arch and now we're back to the good true story! Totally obsessed.
You should check it out if you're into that sor tof thing! Oh and if you are just starting on the series, the boy and I agree that you can pretty much skip the Bount disks and it will not negatively affect your Bleach experience.

I've been taking a break from sewing for knitting, but for a while there I was sewing up a storm!

I made these adorable shorts from Colette Patterns. The above photo was on the Fancy Tiger blog. That is where I work part of the time. It's super awesome. You should go check out the blog, there are all sorts of interesting things going on over there.
I also made these bloomers:
They are super comfortable and I wear them frequently under my skirts. I want  need to make some more!
I took a quilting class with Anna Maria Horner and fell in love with her. She is a really amazing lady!

Then the staff at Fancy Tiger had a sew along for Anna Maria Horner's multi-tasker tote:
And then I made a painted portrait, in the dress length...

Did I mention that I fell in love with Anna Maria? Ha. Her patterns make sense to the way my brain works and don't make me cry like othe people's *coughcolette*

I also met Stephen West!!

He is super nice and funny. And he tried my ice cream when we took him to Sweet Action Ice Cream. (We're talking about literal and real ice cream guys.)
The projects I have planned are:
  • Finishing my Strawberry sorbetto
  • Another Painted Portrait dress, most comfortable thing I own
  • Finish baby quilt for Suzy!
  • Finish Maenad, I was knitting along with craft nighters, but  don't have much super focused craft time.
  • Miz Mozelle (sp?) dress with cute corn fabric!
  • Banksia top by Megan Nielsen
Speaking of Megan Nielsen, she is having an amazing contest for her one year anniversary/ her birthday! You should go check it out.

I've got to be getting to bed, but I'm going to try and be more regular posting on here. Maybe I will try the photo a day thing again.

Jackass quote of the day

"If you think about it we’ve aborted however many – 40 million – Americans through abortion. If those Americans had not been aborted, we might have more laborers here. Consequently, America is not reproducing itself in terms of our own internal repopulation of having a bunch of kids." (07/12/2011)
Todd Akin

Ummm, ok...but lack of laborers is not really a problem in the U.S. today, now is it. Last time I checked there are too many workers and not enough jobs. What a disconected a-hole.

Where I am at.

"Choked. I choked."
"You'll get it back," I said
"No, I won't. I'm a half-artist. I'm smart and talented but I'm not tough enough to go the distance. It's a curse being a half-artist, caught between being a normal person and a real creative person. I'm nuts like a good artist, but I don't have anything to show for it."

That is exactly how I feel lately. I've been reading this book Fiction Ruined My Family by Jeanne Darst, (which is where this excerpt came from) and when I read that paragraph it really resonated with me.
I haven't finished a painting since I graduated art school in 2007. I start projects I never finish.
I know all these amazing creative people and I envy the tenacious nature with which they continue to create. Maybe I will get it back. Maybe.

Things that make me happy in the morning...especially Monday mornings.

Waiting for my coffee to boil. The best coffee comes from this little gem.

My yellow orchid in the morning light. Better photo bellow.

And seeing the boy and dog cuddled up in bed together. It is so cute and warms my heart. Sorry no photo of that, but I don't think he'd very much appreciate my posting that sort of photo.

This past Saturday I got a wild hair and decided I was going to remake my favorite skirt out of some amazing robins egg blue fabric I found at the Grand Junction Habitat for Humanity store. I went there with my best friend and boy is it a great store! I paid $1 for the fabric and it was plenty to cut out my skirt. Here is a photo of my makeshift pattern weights (Joann's didn't have them and Fancy Tiger was closed when I had the money for them...) in my makeshift work space (ie my kitchen.) Plus this is my very first handmade pattern. I'm really excited at the prospect of this working out.

And close up, token artsy photo...

However, later in the process, progress halted...the iron crapped out.

So sad.

But there is hope! Sid bought me a new iron (exish, more boyfriend than not-ish, boy that lives with me, cute boy in the first post. Link is to his blog, check out his talent!) Yay!!! Maybe I'll finish it soon...

I am a child pretending to be a grown-up.

Baby showers, amazing breakfast, long hot car rides, pleasant cool evening walks. That is what today was made of. Not to mention nice cuddly "cool off's" in the bedroom. We have an a/c unit in the bedroom window and on these hot August days it seems to be the only room in our house that will actually save us from the inferno. It probably didn't help that we cooked both our meals today, but boy were they delicious! Bacon, eggs, sourdough boule, fruit salad and perfectly cooked potatoes. Pork chops, applesauce, mashed potatoes and corn. Maybe not the healthiest either. But at least I didn't eat cake at the baby shower.

Some photos for the day.
Toothpick holder birthday present from my very dear friends, vase/ art piece bought at Holiday Handmade (craft fair), Marigold from my garden. Makes me happy when I am sitting at my table.

Camouflaged squirrel in my front yard tree.

Close up. I guess it is too hot for squirrels today too!

Spent the morning and afternoon with my parents, it was very nice. Gave me some more perspective on the whole previously mentioned situation. My dad pointed out that I had talked to him before I went on my trip and had thought it was all over before I had even gone. He said it wasn't really me cheating, but more moving on. He reminded me I'm not that kind of person and that I should be careful what I put into my psyche. It was nice to be reminded that I am not a bad person, with ill intentions for all.
We had a wonderful walk to the local Whole Foods to pick up some breakfast groceries.  Came back, made it. Enjoyed a lovely fruit salad with peaches, blueberries, black berries and watermelon (there are leftovers!) Then just all around enjoyed each others company. It was their first time seeing my new place (been living here since late March.) They liked it. I hope I can find a part time job to be able to keep it!
